Multitasking must be trending. Rebecca Minkoffmade another one of her frequent California trips this week for a trio of events: Monday’s panel for University of California, Berkeley students in STEM study tracks (science, technology, engineering, math) and fashion design, with cospeakers Hillary Kerr of Who What Wear, Brit Morin of Brit + Co, Jess Lee of Polyvore and Renee Wittemyer of Intel Corporation; Tuesday’s fall preview in her West Coast flagship on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, and Wednesday’s panel for University of Southern California students with Julie Wainwright of The RealReal, Delia Grenville of Intel, Leura Fine of Laurel & Wolf, and Crystal Hutter of Edmodo. At Tuesday’s preview, Minkoff also introduced a new outerwear and belt range alongside her apparel, bags and shoes.
This weekend, her focus will shift to parties at Coachella, where she’ll cohost a Saturday lunch with Davis Factor of Smashbox at a private Palm Springs estate. Music will be provided courtesy of DJ (and Katy Perry’s stylist) Johnny Wujek and those expected include Bella Thorne, Erica Pelosini and Lizzie Plapinger of the band MS MR.
Minkoff hasn’t been to the music festival since before having children, and related that she was shocked by the shenanigans that went on years ago. “It’s so much less innocent than Woodstock was,” she said. Her event will surely be on the tamer side, since most guests will likely save their energy for the festival itself (where the evening’s headliner is Guns N’ Roses) and the late-night parties (Levi’s and Re/Done’s Neon Carnival and Jeremy Scott’s annual fete).
