Alexa Chung and Bella Hadid hair accessories

Some 90s beauty trends can stay in the past (skinny eyebrows, we’re talking to you), but the latest to rear its head is wholly covetable.

For a lesson in making hair accessories wearable off the catwalk, look to Alexa Chung, who modelled this jewel-encrusted barrette spelling out the word ‘Girls’ at London Fashion Week. So 90s yet so 2017.

Another twist on the Clueless-era hair accessory comes from Bella Hadid, who herself has launched a fashion collection for LA label Chrome Hearts which is dedicated to the 90s. Hadid’s white straight pin barrettes in her chocolate brown hair make maximum impact with minimal effort.

Meanwhile, Chrissy Teigen is the poster girl for the pearl hair accessories trend. The handiwork of Hollywood hairstylist Jen Atkin, Teigen’s topknot reinvents pearl hairpins for spring/summer 17.

Moving into the 2000s bohemia era, Mary-Kate Olsen wore an antique looking chain with charms in her hair to this year’s Met Gala. We approve.

Now there’s no excuse to revert to a flower crown for festival season.
