A few weeks ago, supermodel Gigi Hadid posed in an ultra-itsy-bitsy swimsuit on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s 2016 swimsuit issue. She pretty much set the momentum for the rest of the summer. Looks like hols this season are all about statement swimwear and nifty accessories to turn up the heat on beach sleek.

Trade in your bikini for a one-piece wonder, which seems to be having a major moment now. Invest in a sexy maillot as you dive through waves and hop on the back of a jet ski.

Timeless colour-block

Designer Aniket Satam says, “Colour-block is timeless and cutouts are best to flaunt your beach body. From the past couple of summers, one piece bikini or maillot are more en vogue than the sassy two-piece. Bold citrus shades like orange, lemon and aqua add refreshing pop fun to a safe nautical swimwear wardrobe.”

Swimsuit

Aniket suggests some cool accessories options. He says, “Throw the classic grunge denim jacket over an all-white bikini for an edgy urban appeal. Make sure the jacket is jazzed with multiple pins for the ‘it’ DIY look. Retro oversized sunglasses and a stack of bracelets with crochet poncho are a must for Coachella-inspired pool parties. Go classic with pinstripes or polka printed one piece bikini and complete your look with a wide brimmed straw hat and white rimmed plastic sunnies or timeless Jackie O’ sunnies for the luxe lounge gateway. Go hippie luxe by sporting raffia accessories with woven basket totes for the Havana tropical boho vibe. If you’re going for printed swimsuits, style it with XXL white men’s shirt with a serious dosage of some chunky gold jewellery.”

Be the cutout czarina

Designer Swapnil Shinde observes that this season cutout bikinis, tiny ruffles on shoulders and super-basic minimalist maillots are trending. “Geometric prints inspired by African tribes and ikat prints are also a favourite this season. Add wooden hand accessories along with chunky silver oxidised jewellery for the great finish,” says Shinde.

Play with prints

Designer Farah Sanjana suggests, “Printed swimsuits and bralets are great options. A huge jelly beach bag and body harnesses are perfect for this season’s look. Wedges and bright jewelled flip flops are a fantastic option that add glamour to a comfy beach look!”
