Intermix-x-Gateway-School

Any seasoned shopper would have frequented the Intermix stores in New York. For over two decades now, they have served as a one-stop shop for labels both established and emerging. Think the likes of Balmain, Alberta Ferretti, Ulla Johnson and Attico. Now, Intermix has joined forces with Indira Bodani, founder of the Gateway School of Mumbai—a space dedicated to empowering children with learning difficulties. The result? A shopping event that brings into the spotlight the creative efforts of the school’s students, while treating those in attendance to the store’s carefully curated collection.

“This April, we had an art show, which was the coming together of five labels, Monisha Jaising, Vikram Phadnis, Surily DP Goel, SS Homme, Seema Khan, and the children of Gateway. That, I think, was really liked by Intermix and they wanted to celebrate these kids, and at the same time create awareness about special education in India,” says Bodani. Also, on display are the children’s collaborative works with Supriya Himatsingka of the Baby Baazaar and home accessories created with Tanya Deol. “They are inviting their regular clients to, of course, come shop, but also see the lovely work done by the kids. What I’m hoping is that maybe some designer or some design home in the US gets interested and we can actually work with them.”
