Makeup destruction posts are more popular than ever, and our feeds are full of slow-motion videos and close-up photos of lipsticks being sliced and compacts being crushed. Usually, there’s a good reason behind the process; many makeup artists and bloggers crush up existing shades so they can combine them to make new ones. And who could forget the Fenty Beauty destroyer, who used fire and knives to make sure her application was as pigmented and smooth as possible? We really thought we had seen it all at this point, but a recent Facebook post proved us wrong — we’ve never witnessed a makeup destruction story quite like this before.
According to Insider, makeup artist Brittney Nelson recently posted a photo of a completely ruined Sephora display to Facebook. In the post, she accused another shopper’s child of messing up the products, which were crumbled and smeared everywhere. The result: a photo that will probably bring a tear to your eye.
“$1300 of Make Up Forever eye shadow destroyed at Sephora tonight due to a small child,” she wrote in the post, before launching into an explanation of what had happened. After the post went viral, many social media users took issue with her admonishments to other parents bringing their children makeup-shopping. And Brittney later explained to Insider that she hadn’t witnessed the crime actually take place, but made deductions — leading to a full-blown social media debate about mom-shaming.
While parenting is an individual decision, one thing’s for sure: This will definitely always be a memorable tale of makeup destruction. And while some of Brittney’s message may have been controversial, we’re fully with her on her conclusion. “This massive demolished palette makes me 😞,” she wrote. “Makeup should always make me 😊.”
