Australian fine opal and diamond cruise ring in 18-karat gold
Opals are the stars of Hong Kong-based jeweller Tayma Page Allies’ latest collection, “Floating Islands.” Allies, the British designer behind her eponymous Tayma Fine Jewellery brand, said the collection was inspired by a bird’s eye view of Australia’s Lizard and Heron Island, and reflected the myriad ocean hues of the Great Barrier Reef.
One of two standout pieces in the collection features the five “Floating Islands” opal flower pendant, which consists of opals surrounding a cabochon green Paraiba tourmaline. The opals are framed by contrasting diamonds, which have been set under microscope by an expert goldsmith.
The second hero piece is the Bushfire earrings, which flash red, orange and lime green against a rich purple background. The opals are contrasted with cabochon pink tourmalines and give the piece an abstract structure.
“I love this collection since I grew up in the Caribbean and adore tropical island colours,” said the designer, who has a boutique in Central. “The Floating Islands are feminine and eye-catching and at the same time extremely comfortable to wear.”
Allies said she designs wearable fine jewellery that are conversation pieces. “Continuing our signature mixology style of mix and match, the Floating Island earrings can be worn in four different ways, from day studs to evening long drops with diamond mixers,” she said.
Meanwhile, the jeweller said it has entered into its first e-commerce collaboration with global marketplace, 1stdibs.com. Launched on April 17, a carefully selected curation of coloured gemstone pieces representative of Allies’ bold and contemporary style is available for online purchase.
The distinctive jewellery incorporates some of the most popular gemstones currently trending on the international market including Paraiba tourmaline, rubellite, mandarin spessartite garnet, Mexican fire opal and moonstone set mostly as earrings and rings with pavé diamonds in 18-karat yellow and white gold in classic Tayma fashion. Each piece is a handmade work of art and is presented online from a variety of angles so that potential owners are able to experience the jewellery pieces, she said.
“With loyal clients based all over the world, it is important that our first foray into e-commerce is with a reputable and reliable retailer with a market focus that matches our own,” the designer said. “1stdibs followers are sophisticated with a highly developed sense of style, very much like our own clientele.”
