“French women love ponytails,” says David Mallett, the Paris-based coiffeur whose clients include Charlotte Gainsbourg, Carla Bruni, and Marion Cotillard. Such an admission may come as a surprise to Americans who associate Gallic lengths more with Brigitte Bardot’s famous tousle than the traditionally sporty style, but of course, this is no post-workout ponytail. These chicettes have a trick—mais bien sûr!—and it’s about to arrive stateside.
Enter Les Bagues de Cheveux, three glimmering wedding ring–inspired hair bands, created by Mallett and jeweler Suzanne Syz and soon to be available at his New York outpost at The Webster. Conveniently equipped with an elastic tie that tucks away out of sight, the white, yellow, and rose gold accessories clasp around the base of the tail for a “pretty, but not frivolous” finish. “They are the perfect answer for looking polished and fabulous without the investment of time,” adds Mallett. Even more? “They are better used on dirty hair than clean.” Laissez-faire lengths with a touch of Parisian panache? Oui, oui.
