An expansive array of diamonds and coloured gemstones tops Christie’s Magnificent Jewels sale scheduled for May 31 in Hong Kong. Leading the lots is “The Aurora Green” diamond ring adorned with a 5.03-carat rectangular-cut fancy vivid green diamond centre stone surrounded by circular-cut pink diamonds. According to Christie’s, this is the largest natural fancy vivid green diamond in the world. The piece is estimated to sell for US$16 million to US$20 million. Other highlights of the sale are a jadeite cabochon and diamond pendant and brooch with a pre-sale estimate of US$1.5 million to US$2.3 million; an art deco Kashmir sapphire and diamond bracelet by Cartier valued at US$7.5 million to US$10 million; and a multi-gem pendant necklace by celebrated Chinese jeweller Wallace Chan. Chan’s piece is expected to sell for US$750,000 to US$1 million. Christie’s Magnificent Jewels sale is part of the Hong Kong Spring Auction to be held from May 27 to June 1 2016 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. This is a special season of sales to commemorate the auction house’s 30th anniversary in Asia. | “The Aurora Green” diamond ring (Photo credit: Christie’s) |
