From updos to beachy waves and chignons, as a bride-to-be you’re bombarded with possibilities on how to style your hair for the big day
But whichever style you go for, there’s one crucial part you should make sure not to neglect – accessories.
A bridal hair accessory has the ability to take your look to the next level, but knowing which one to choose can be tricky. After all, you want something that’s going to complement your dress without looking OTT.
To help you decide, we take a look at some of our favourite hair accessories that promise to add a little extra gravitas to your look.
Headbands
If you’ve decided not to wear a veil but still want to add something to your hairdo then something like this netted headband from British milliner Stephen Jones could do the trick.
A great option for alternative brides, headbands are super versatile and can be worn with the hair down, half up, all up and with shorter styles.
A piece that has a real fashion-forward edge, it’s fitted with a fabric hairband that sits comfortably behind the ears with a glittery grosgrain ribbon running across the centre. To top it all off, it’s finished with twinkling rhinestones on both sides and a showstopping layer of netting.
Hair combs
It’s up to you how much or how little you decide to wear, but if you’re undecided then a hair comb offers the perfect compromise.
Hair combs add a point of interest to most styles including French twists, ballerina buns, chignons and braids. However, our favourite way to wear them is to scrape one side of the hair up behind your ear.
We love this super-affordable crystal comb in silver, which is set with dazzling rhinestones in a pretty floral arrangement, from Accessorize.
Tiara
If there’s one time you can get away with wearing a tiara it’s on your wedding day, so why not go all out with a royal-worthy statement piece like this one from Ivory & Co.
Designed with a thin yet comfortable headband, it’s accented with elaborate floral detailing, which is set with a mix of iridescent freshwater pearls and small glistening round cubic zirconia.
The perfect way to add height to your hairstyle, a tiara looks great with almost any do but placement is key. Wear yours about an inch to an inch and half back from your hairline to ensure it frames your face and balances your features.
Hair pins
If hair accessories aren’t usually your thing, then investing in some delicate pins might be the best way to give your locks an understated finish.
For a subtle yet classic look, add multiple pins throughout your hair – be it a bun, chignon or Grecian-style plait – for little pops of sparkle that will give your tresses more dimension.
Our favourites are Jennifer Behr’s gold-plated hair slides, which come embellished with Swarovski pearls to elevate even the simplest of hair dos.
