Applying blush is one of the essential steps of make-up. The rouge applied on cheeks warms up the complexion, gives a youthful glow and creates an illusion of cheekbones. But, applying blush is more than just swirling the brush on your face. From picking the right colour to knowing where to apply, there’s a lot to learn!

To make it easy for you, we’ve got four illustrations showing where to apply blush according to your face shape.

1. If you have a long face shape…

Apply blush on the apples of your cheeks and blend it to towards the temples. Think of a ‘boomerang’ shape when applying the rouge.

2. If you have a round face shape…

Give your face a slimmer look by applying it from the temples to apples of your cheeks in angular shape like shown. This will contour a little bit and give an illusion of slimmer cheeks.

3. If you have an oval face shape…

Apply blush on the center of the cheeks and blend around that circle only.

4. If you have square face shape…

Apply blush in a straight line from the nose to the ears. Then, blend in the same linear line to get that soft glow.

Want to get more out of your blush? Here are a few tips that will give you a flattering look.

1. Pick the right shade
Just like your foundation, there isn’t one colour for all skin tones. Look for a shade that flatters your skin tone, adds a glow to your face and not makes you look tanned or dull.

2. Skip shimmer if you have acne
Shiny and a sparkly blush will only highlight your pimples, bumps and even wrinkles. To avoid this, try to stick to matte powders.

3. Start with a primer
If you notice that your blush disappears fast, then go for a primer. This will make your rouge stick to something and even last longer.

4. Get that natural glow
If you love the idea of looking lit from within, then this hack is for you! First apply a cream blush, then your regular foundation and top it off with a dust of blush. Bonus: It’s long lasting too!

5. Pick the right formula
Just like the way one shade suits you, there’s also one formula that can go well with your skin type. Powder ones work for almost all skin types, while cream ones are a big no for oily skin. For a long lasting flush, you can pick stain potions and for a sweat-proof finish in summer, go for gel based blushers.
