Roorkee: A city resident approached the police on Saturday to register a complaint against an online shopping company, which had allegedly duped her of Rs 13 lakh by alluring her into various money prizes. Police have started investigation into the matter.
According to the Gangnahar police, Mira Yadav, a resident of West Amber Talab locality said in her complaint that the online shopping company duped her for a period of three months.
She said that she was watching television on April 19 and through an advertisement she contacted an online firm that was offering various schemes and prizes.
A company official told her about a scheme and asked her to deposit Rs 1 lakh in their bank account. Three days later when she called the company to enquire about her prize, she was suggested another scheme against more money.
In three months, she had already deposited Rs 13 lakh. She told the police that she had sold off her jewellery to accumulate money for her shopping adventure.
“Such cases are usually registered with the cyber crime police so we have asked the complainant to go to Dehradun to lodge her complaint. However, we have also started investigating the matter,” said Amar Chand Sharma, in-charge of Gangnahar police station.
