A wide array of coloured gemstone jewellery will go under the hammer at Bonhams’ Rare Jewels & Jadeite auction scheduled for November 30 at Admiralty in Hong Kong.
Top-billing the sale is a rare sapphire and diamond ring by Mouawad, which has a pre-sale estimate of HK$6.8 million to HK$8.8 million (US$880,000 to US$1.1 million). According to the auction house, the antique cushion-shaped sapphire of 10.21 carats is accompanied by gemmological reports stating that the natural sapphire originates from Kashmir and has no indications of heat treatment.
Another exceptional lot is a ring adorned with a 4-carat step-cut ruby, cradled by baguette diamonds. The piece is expected to sell for HK$4.8 million to HK$5.8 million (US$620,000 to US$750,000). A report by SSEF said the “Pigeon’s Blood” ruby is natural and traces its origins to Burma.
A radiant-cut fancy light pink diamond of 5.03 carats is also expected to command buyers’ attention. The piece, certified by the Gemological Institute of America as natural and has an internally flawless clarity grade, is valued at HK$4.1 million to HK$4.8 million (US$530,000 to US$620,000).
Other highlights of the sale include an 8.88-carat diamond ring by Cartier, which is estimated to fetch HK$5.38 million to HK$6.2 million (US$690,000 to US$800,000), and a jadeite bead necklace, which is expected to sell for HK$3.2 million to HK$3.8 million (US$410,000 to US$490,000).
