A positive outlook for jewellery demand in China bodes well for the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, which is scheduled for September 13 to 17  at the AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) and from September 15 to 19 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

According to the GFMS Gold Survey 2016: Q2 Update & Outlook, published by Thomson Reuters, jewellery demand in China is expected to pick up in September ahead of the week-long national holiday in October.  Recent data from the Chinese government also showed an improvement in the Chinese market: China’s gold imports from Hong Kong reached RMB45.8 billion (around US$687 million) in the first six months of 2016, up 550 percent from the same period in 2015. The September Hong Kong Fair positions participants to tap into opportunities in China as well as in the rest of the Asia Pacific., according to show organiser, UBM Asia.

The September Hong Kong Fair, now in its 34th edition, will host more than 3,550 exhibitors from 54 countries and regions over more than 135,000 square metres of exhibition space.

“We are excited to unveil numerous new events, launch value-added show features and introduce new exhibitors at this edition as part of our initiative to continually enhance buyers’ experiences. We work hard to develop the September Fair to ensure that it responds to the market’s ever-changing needs. Of course, we are also working hard to make sure that through our quality service, the September Fair maintains its reputation as the world’s leading jewellery event,” said Celine Lau, director of jewellery fairs at UBM Asia.

Sunny Chan, deputy fair manager of Jewellery Fairs at UBM Asia, said the B2B show is expected to welcome around 58,000 local and overseas buyers in its seven-day run. “Participants can expect the same business-friendly environment and reliable and professional services that have become the hallmarks of UBM Asia’s fairs over the past several years,” Chan said.

The trade show will feature first-time exhibitors from Nigeria, Portugal, Saint Kitts and Nevis, the Slovak Republic, Tahiti and Vanuatu.
