During the January to April 2017 period, cotton imports by the USA surged marginally in volume terms by 0.1 per cent on Y-o-Y basis. Whereas, particularly in April it plunged by 0.6 per cent. It may be noted here the total cotton imports include imports of cotton yarn, cotton fabrics, cotton made-ups and cotton apparels.
Registering cotton products import of 6,021.3 million SME worth US $ 14650.37 million during the period as against 6,018.3 million SME worth US $ 15058.92 million in the corresponding period last year, the US has indicated that domestic market of cotton has improved a little. Cotton fabrics and cotton made-up recorded boost by 3.8 per cent and 4.0 per cent in volume terms, respectively. Cotton yarns and cotton apparels however were down in its imports as these categories noted downfall of 6.0 per cent and 2.0 per cent, respectively in volume terms.

On the other hand, in April, only cotton made-ups recorded growth in volume-wise imports (2.5 per cent), whereas cotton yarns, cotton fabrics and cotton apparels were down by 5.7 per cent, 5.1 per cent and 1.4 per cent, respectively, when compared with the April month of 2016.
