At least 40 kg silver, 300-grammes gold, diamond jewellery worth Rs 2,00,000 and cash worth Rs 2,00,0000 has been reported stolen in a burglary at Nakoda Jewellers, located in Kumar Classic Society, Aundh, on Thursday. The total theft is worth Rs 29,35,00, according to the complaint.
The store is owned by Vijay Mohanlal Sonigara, 52, a resident of Shankar Seth road in Swargate.
According to the Chatuhshrungi police, the theft, which was committed at 3 am, was caught on CCTVs inside the store. The CCTVs captured four suspects with faces covered with what appears to be handkerchiefs, police said.
“The complaint was filed in the morning. The owner lives far away from the shop,” said senior police inspector Anil Shewale of Chatuhshrungi police station.
“In total there was 40 kg silver, 300gram gold, diamond jewellery worth Rs 2,00,000 and cash worth Rs 2,00,0000,” said Manish Sonigara, a relative of the complainant. “They picked up the set-top box as well. Everything has been recorded in the CCTV footage,” he added.
The four men arrived in a car and cut through two mesh doors along with a shutter located between the two mesh doors. The car was parked right outside the door of the ground-floor shop and can be seen in the footage, according to Sonigara.
A case under Sections 454 (lurking house-trespass or housebreaking in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment), 457 (lurking house-trespass or housebreaking by night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) and 380 (theft in dwelling house, etc) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Chatuhashrungi police station against unidentified persons.
Police sub-inspector Sameer Chavan of Chatuhshrungi police station is investigating the case.
