Indian jewellery retailer Malabar Gold & Diamonds is targeting to operate 300 showrooms by 2020 as the company expands its global operations, particularly in Asia. Malabar recently opened five new showrooms in Oman, Sharjah, Mehdipatnam and Belagavi, pushing the total number to 150 in time for Akshaya Tritiya, a holy Indian celebration. “We see stronger appetite among consumers in India and abroad who visit our outlets for gold and diamond jewellery during festivals like Akshaya Tritiya. With the opening of our new showrooms, we can satisfy our customers with more value-added services,” according to Malabar Group chairman MP Ahammed. Backed by 22 years of experience in the jewellery retail industry, Malabar is currently expanding its business in Hong Kong and Indonesia. Apart from its contemporary jewellery collections, the retailer is expanding its customised jewellery line to include pieces with cultural influences. Malabar offers a wide range of gold and diamond jewellery as well as a selection of silver and platinum items. In line with the government’s “Make in India” initiative, Malabar said it is also improving its manufacturing units with modern systems and technology. These new manufacturing units are also expected to provide job opportunities to more than 5,000 skilled workers, the group added. |
