Amanzimtoti fashion designer, Madelain Clark (49) has been invited to showcase her work at this year’s Vodacom Durban July which takes place this Saturday, 7 July.
“I’m very honoured (to be invited), as it’s a tribute to achieving designers who have made the Vodacom Durban July what it is today,” she said.
Over the years, the Toti designer has featured in many Vodacom Durban July fashion competitions and has won a phenomenal 10 times in various categories. This year’s fashion theme is ‘It’s Time’. “My inspiration (for my design) is it’s time to celebrate the power of fashion and powerful women, keeping in mind that fashion is forever changing with the times but elegance will always remain timeless.”
Madelain’s creation for Saturday’s competition took her just a week to complete. Pumla of ICE Models will show it off. “I needed a very specific look for this design and she met all my requirements.”

Designers from all over the country gather to showcase their work at the Vodacom Durban July, as it is an internationally-watched event. In Madelain’s category ‘The Timeless Collection’ 10 designers were invited. “Winners for the on-track fashion will be announced on race day. Maybe I’ll pull something out the hat… let’s see,” she said.
