The Imperial State Crown, created by Garrard for the coronation of King George VI in 1937
Fans of The Crown who are also sticklers for historical accuracy will have noticed that the Netflix drama omitted at least one tense moment from the 1947 royal wedding that serves as its opening episode: the point when Princess Elizabeth’s diamond tiara snapped and had to be rushed via police escort to the Garrardworkshops for repair.
Accordingly, the replica of the tiara on display at the jeweller’s Albemarle Street headquarters shows the same slight gap between the central diamond spike and the one directly to its right that can be seen in photographs from the wedding day.
