The biggest fashion event in Mumbai, Lakmé Fashion Week is back for its winter/festive 2017 edition. Designers have been working on fresh collection for the last few months and we’ve got a sneak peek at what’s coming up this week. From Sanjay Garg’s Lakmé Absolute Grand Opening on Day 1 at Royal Opera House to Manish Malhotra’s closing show with a surprise showstopper, the next few days will be anything but boring. Without further ado, here are all the collections we are looking forward to and why.

Rara Avis by Sonal Verma

VIFF finalist Sonal Verma re-examines classic silhouettes for the season with her collection ‘Colander’. Quite literally, Verma aims to sieve through the unwanted this season, making room for luxury. Fall-ready broody greys, nays and browns are punctuated with crystals, crimson and millennial pink.

Fashion cues from Padukone
Classic, chic and comfortable are three words that come to mind when we think of Padukone’s sense of style. “Deepika does not like being overtly styled. She likes being comfortable and chic. That’s what we stayed true to for the Axis Bank shoot. We kept it minimalistic in terms of the cuts and silhouettes, letting her natural beauty and style shine through,” says Nathani. “She likes her looks to be very chic but it is important for her that it looks real as well. If she is going out shopping, she would dress this way and we kept it tuned to that,” she adds.

Styling 101
Styling Padukone isn’t as easy as it looks. You would imagine that the life of a celebrity stylist is exceedingly cool with innumerable perks but there are many challenges that come their way. “A lot of hard work goes behind styling stars. Since we have to put together many looks, we are constantly shopping, which can make shopping a little monotonous and cumbersome at times. But, styling for this shoot was completely different. #ExperienceAxis added that element of luxury that really made me enjoy shopping for the commercial.” says Nathani.

Fashion forward
From an edgy pinstripe suit to a sensuous black dress, the #ExperienceAxis film had us swooning over all of Padukone’s looks. “One might think that when you are working with a bank that they will get very stereotypical with what they might want to do. But that was not the case here. What was amazing was the kind of liberty that we were given, I was allowed to express what we felt for the films. So, we pushed the boundaries of fashion but still kept it very relatable.” says Nathani.

The favourite look from the film
“Deepika and I picked the same look as our favourite – the striped pant-suit. We were debating it while shooting but the way it turned out was very iconic. Stripes are so in vogue, and just having a striped suit look and having it mirrored through a black and white film added so much to the overall look.” says Nathani.

Experience life with #ExperienceAxis
Considering that this is an experience-focused campaign, Nathani had to bring style alive in the campaign. She says, “Deepika was very comfortable during the shoot and Experience Axis is all about that ultimately – rediscovering the comfort of experiences like shopping and dining and enjoying them to the fullest.” #ExperienceAxis successfully brings you all of life’s little elements that give you an upgrade. Whether you’re indulging in retail therapy or dining, it is about the experience, and you can now watch it come alive courtesy Axis Bank and Deepika Padukone.
