Eyeliner to suit your eye shape

Eyeliner to suit your eye shape

People tend to assume that there aren’t many ways to apply eyeliner and the only way is by dragging it across your eyelid in one straight line. What people also tend to assume is that this straight line would suit them, irrespective of their eye shape. Well, we’re here to bust those assumptions. Eye shape is a major way to determine the eyeliner best suited for you. Correctly applied eyeliner would not just enhance your eyes, it would bring out the beauty of your other facial features as well. So, here are the best ways to apply eyeliner according to the shape of your eyes.

Wide set eyes

Such eyes can get away with many eyeliner looks but a crucial point to pull off all looks is to bring these eyes closer together. Line your upper and lower lash line with eyeliner as close to the inner tear duct as possible. Follow it up with a flick which joins both the lash lines at the outer corner. Don’t forget to smudge the lower lash line with a small eyeshadow brush to give depth and definition to your eyes. (Picture credits: BCCL)

Almond shaped eyes

Women with almond shaped eyes have the privilege of pulling off any eyeliner look due to the unique shape of their eyes. However, the ideal look would be winged eyeliner. Start by lining the inner corner of your eyes and slowly build in on the thickness. The eyeliner should be thick from the middle to the outer corner of your eyes, extending it to a slight wing at the end. (Picture credits: BCCL)

To enhance the beauty of hooded eyes, try an elongated cat eye. Keep the eyeliner thick as this look would give your eyes the most definition and shape. You can make your eyes appear bigger and shapely by following this quick trick. While applying your liner, Make it thicker in the center and thinner at the corners. (Picture credits: Flickr)

Upturned eyes

The beauty of this shape is the slight lift at the outer corner of the eyes which makes it easier to pull off winged eyeliner. These eyes are very similar to almond shaped eyes, the difference is the uneven upper and lower lid proportions. Emphasize on the outer lower corner to balance the lifted effect. Go for an extended eyeliner, imitating the same effect on the lower lash line as well. Apply the eyeliner with a light hand on the lower lash line and don’t go all the way to the inner tear duct. Such eyes have a slight dropping at the outer corners of the eyes. The trick here is to balance their shape out by keeping them lifted. So, keep the eye liner simple and add a slight flick towards the outer corners to make the eyes appear sharp and elongated. A technique used by makeup artists to open up such shaped eyes is brightening the inner corners using a shimmery eye shadow or pencil. A nude liner or pencil could also be used to line the lower lash line to create the illusion of bigger eyes. (Picture credits: Wikimedia Commons)

Deep set eyes

Such eyes create an illusion of a prominent brow bone due to their placement on the face. The ends of the eyelashes tend to graze the lids as the eyes are large and set deeper into the skull. The ideal eyeliner look would be one where the liner starts at the outer section of the eyes. Try to line the eyes from the highest point of the curve extending it outwards into a wing. Don’t make the eyeliner too long or too thick as this would make your eyes look smaller. Steer clear of dark eye shadows and heavy mascara (use only waterproof) as this would obstruct the lift you’re looking for.
